About ARA

In academia, systemic barriers such as limited funding and mentorship disproportionately affect underrepresented doctoral students. Many talented scholars face financial obstacles that hinder their ability to complete essential research, perpetuating inequities within higher education.
 

The creation of the Academic Research Alliance was inspired by a deep understanding of the barriers faced by underrepresented doctoral students. Dr. Rivers and Dr. Gates, both graduates of Capella University’s Doctor of Business Administration program, witnessed these challenges firsthand during their own doctoral journeys.

Throughout their studies, they saw classmates struggle to afford the essential data collection and research analysis required to complete their dissertations and capstone projects. These experiences illuminated the systemic inequities in academic funding and mentorship and sparked a shared determination to make a difference. Together, they envisioned an organization that would empower underrepresented scholars by alleviating financial burdens, fostering mentorship, and creating opportunities for academic success.
